Causality

Keith Herring - National Coming Out Day Poster

Causality (also referred to as causation[1]) is the relation between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect), where the first event is understood to be responsible for the second. – Wikipedia

Watching the pictures roll in from my friends at Pride in San Franciso this weekend I felt a bit jealous that I wasn’t there with them taking part in the celebration. These friends, closer than family who I love dearly and have so much shared history with. Many nights of dancing and fun and other nights of profound sadness and long conversations.

Friday Fun – Dance Your Ass Off

Thanks to blogging 101 I’ve finally found the fun thing I’m going to feature. I’m going to start posting a Friday Feature… and make the feature a song to get you out of your desk chair and on your feet.

Owning our history

splc

Yesterday I went off on a rant about Ben Affleck and about his (successful) attempt to rewrite his personal history on a TV show called Finding Your Roots. I was outraged, livid that someone with a little bit of power would choose to abuse it in such a way to omit the parts of his history.  I’m still annoyed and now of course with word of his actions getting out he looks like an even bigger jackass.

Rewriting History

I vaguely remember the brouhaha when the emails surfaced but I quickly moved on as celebrity gossip barely interests me, but something about this article from The Week really bothered me.

Kudos (I guess) to PBS for owning up to letting some spoiled celebrity exert undue influence on them, but seriously Ben Affleck?  What kind of asshat isn’t man enough to step up and say, “these are my people and they made choices I completely disagree with but thank God we’ve learned the lessons of history”.   Or something.

Prompted (although not so promptly published) Post

Today’s challenge for Blogging 101 is to blog from a prompt.  Mine was “Bittersweet Memories” and the prompt was to talk about a gift I received that made me nostalgic and why.

My most treasured gift came from my aunt Shelley.  It was a wedding gift.  My aunt sent me a keepsake recipe book, filled with old pictures and copies of the index cards my grandmother kept her recipes on.  I keep it with all recipeof my other cherished family memories, the recipes copied onto my own index cards or copied so the book stays pristine. There were so many wonderful family pictures, interspersed with some of our family’s favorite recipes.  Grandma Jean’s ‘to die for’ dinner rolls and her amazing Swiss steak and including homemade chili sauce. This cookbook had them all.  One day I’ll even make her homemade pickles (even though I’m not a pickle fan).

Fastest Swag in the West

I love that WordPress’s merch is here in Phoenix. My delivery was super fast!  I would also like to point out that these shirts are so SO lightweight and buttery soft I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get a few other colors (oh and more stickers).

Inspired By Neighbors or The Great Greeting Card Debate

14189_GCA_Home_HeaderYesterday I stumbled across this wonderful post about why we don’t send greeting cards as often and how social media may be part of the reason why.  Never one to let a cultural question die, I evaluated my own personal stance (don’t laugh cause I totally have one) and commented.  I fear I may have come off a bit aggressive or at least kind of an anti-greeting card freak.  Please allow me to explain.

WordPress Pride Shirt

Hot off the presses and made right here in AZ more WordPress paraphernalia for me to buy and for my husband to say “they should just send you this stuff free for as much as you wear it”.  I am the proud owner of about 6 WordPress shirts and hoodies, not including my 3 WordCamp PHX, 1 WordCamp San Diego and 1 WordCamp San Francisco shirts, moleskine and coffee mugs not to mention stickers and buttons.  I’m a fangirl, I’ll own up to it.  These pride shirts are pretty awesome and in fun colors to boot.  Order placed.
